BYOS—Bring Your Own Shovel
Friday, March 15, 2013
It is with great excitement that we can announce that the FMCC Board approved breaking ground on our new facility and we are moving forward with the construction! From what our contractors have told us, we are planning to be curling in our new facility by early November 2013.
We will be planning a formal ground breaking for our new facility in early April (once the ground thaws). Please watch the FMCC facebook page, FMCC website, and your email for a notification of the date and time for this event, it will be a BYOS (bring your own shovel).
For those that have pledged towards our new facility, we will be sending out letters with your total pledge amount and the amount of your first payment within the next few weeks. The first pledge payment will be due April 15th. If you have not pledged but would like to help out, pledge forms are available at the club or by clicking here.
As this will be our last season in our current facility, we are also planning a few wind-up activities. We will be having a one-day funspiel on Saturday March 30th where we will draw teams from a hat and curl in our current facility one last time prior to shutting the plant off ending this year's season. If you are interested in partaking in this event, please email us at fmcurling@gmail.com so that we are able to plan the format accordingly for this event based on the number of individuals interested.
Also, after our regular Spring Meeting on April 9th at 7 pm, which will include the election of 3 board members, we will celebrate the memories in our current facility and have one last "broomstacking" prior to closing the facilities formally for the season.
A very big thank you goes out to all of our members who have helped in the past or are currently working on our new facility campaign. This dream has been discussed during my entire tenure within the club and it is amazing to see if finally becoming a reality.
Interested in designing for Curling Olympic Team Trials?
The local organizing committee for the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling is requesting creative services of graphic designers in the Fargo-Moorhead area to design the overall branding of all print promotional materials for the Trials. The final “look” will be used for posters, brochures, ticket order forms and all other print materials. The exposure the “look” will receive is vast because the Trials are a national event. The overall branding design should represent the Fargo community, but have an overall American feel.

Fargo to host 2014 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling
(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) – Fargo, N.D., has been selected as the host site for the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling.
"The USCA is pleased to return to Fargo for the 2014 Olympic Trials," said Chris Sjue, president, U.S. Curling Association (USCA). "Scheels Arena is an outstanding venue that received great reviews from the athletes and fans during the 2011 Men’s and Women’s National Championships. The top U.S. men’s and women’s teams will be competing for the chance to represent the USA at the Olympics in Sochi, Russia. It will be exciting."
The USCA Executive Committee unanimously approved awarding the bid to Scheels Arena and the Metro Sports Foundation after a months‐long review of several bids by a special site selection committee. The Trials will be held in mid‐November 2013 (exact dates pending) at Scheels Arena, a 5,000 seat arena which also hosted USA Curling’s 2011 National Championships.
Also bidding to host the Trials were Bemidji, Minn.; Green Bay, Wis.; Sioux City, Iowa; and Willmar, Minn. Green Bay has been selected to host the 2013 USA Curling National Championships at the Cornerstone Community Center.
"We are extremely excited to welcome USA Curling and the U.S. Olympic Committee to Fargo for the 2014 Trials," said Jon Kram, general manager of Scheels Arena. "We enjoyed having them here for the national championships earlier this year, and we are looking forward to working with them on another successful event that will bring recognition to the Fargo‐Moorhead community."
A field of a maximum five men’s teams and four women’s teams will compete at the 2014 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling for a chance to represent the U.S. in Sochi. Teams will begin qualifying for the Olympic Trials this season, with the top two men’s and women’s teams at the conclusion of the 2012 USA Curling National Championships earning the first berths.
